Lashing guide
Round Lashing
A simple way to bind two parallel spars together.
What it is used for
Round Lashing binds two spars that run side by side. It is useful for joining parallel poles or extending a spar when the planned load and project design make this appropriate.
Before you start
Lay the spars parallel with the amount of overlap required by the project. The lashing should be tight, neat and positioned where it can be inspected.
How to tie a Round Lashing
- Start with a Clove Hitch around one spar, positioned between the two spars.
- Make seven or eight close, firm turns around both spars. Keep every turn beside the previous one rather than crossing it.
- Make two tight frapping turns between the spars and around the wrapping turns.
- Finish with a Clove Hitch around one spar, then dress and inspect the whole lashing.
For a structural project, the Leader supervising the activity decides the lashing method, overlap, rope and load limits. Do not climb on an unchecked construction.
